The 10th Annual Women on Waves Long Board Surf Fest
took place on April 8, 2006 at Capitola’s Main Peak. Thanks to Paradise Surf Shop and an ample dose of some much missed sunshine, it was a tremendous success!
When it comes to surfing, this area is known to be a boy’s club. However, Paradise Surf Shop is one of the few surf shops that target women by offering a variety of apparel, wetsuits, accessories, boards and necessary equipment suited specifically to them.
This year, to promote surfing and its appeal to women, Sally Smith, Paradise Surf Shop’s owner, organized and managed the Women on Waves Long Board event. By combining raffles that gave away many beautiful locally crafted surfboards and other prizes, and having the competition open to a variety of age groups, this year’s fest brought an enthusiastic crowd to downtown Capitola.
Many surf fanatics were able to gather and enjoy a day of healthy competition and sizable waves. Sally made sure to keep the atmosphere relaxed and provided entertainment with the help of local bands. This event not only celebrated women’s surfing, but part of the raffle tickets’ proceeds went to major causes: WomenCare, Women’s Crisis Support Center and Cabrillo College Barry Hamby Scholarship fund.
Zag Design Group was proud to participate in this event. The team helped update the Paradise Surf Shop website with necessary information pertaining to that day, created the program and designed T-shirts and hoodies for the fest. In addition, we held a booth with a contest for new or existing businesses in need of business cards or web hosting. It was a great turnout and we are glad to have several new customers who are seeking our diversified help.
